Ubuntu on the MacBookAir3,1 11" and MacBookAir3,2 13"
Here you see the Ubuntu login screen an a MacbookAir3,1.
Basicly the installation is similiar to a normal installation, the first thing you have to do is :
1.) Use nomodeset as boot option for the installer.
On the first boot add nomodeset and reboot=pci to the kernel parameters.
How to make this permanent look at this wiki page :
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro7-1/Maverick
I also used the sound config from there.
For the keyboard and touchpad you can use this patch :
macbookair_patch_2.txt
Edit /etc/initramfs-tools/modules and add :
bcm5974
hid-apple
usbhid

What installer did you use? When I use Ubuntu 10.10 installer I get an unreadable screen display.
AntwortenLöschenUbuntu Desktop installer. Use nomodeset as boot parameter, then you have a normal desktop.
AntwortenLöschenHi, nice work, I had Ubuntu unstalled on my old MacBook Air 2,1 but was totally confused with the garbled screen when I booted off the live cd on my new Air. Google truly is your friend.
AntwortenLöschenA question though. When editing the grub configuration file do we just add nomodeset & reboot=pci as you suggest above or "video=uvesafb:mode_option=1280x800-24,mtrr=3,scroll=ywrap" as well like it suggests on the page you linked too.
I'm guessing it's just nomodeset & reboot=pci but I'd rather check first rather than screwing up Grub.
It may be too late, but this did the trick for me on my Mac Mini:
